Journal Week 10

In my life this week…

I am happy to have been nominated for the Homeschool Blog Awards in the Best Homeschool Dad Blog category. You can vote everyday by clicking on the button below.

The rest of the week has been focused on getting our first ever portfolio done and figuring out what we are doing for the next section.

In our homeschool this week…

As I said above our first portfolio is done. YAY!!! I am happy with it and the experience has shown me more of what I need for the next one. That and some of the other sites I found have clarified things particularly in Social Studies.

I have made a better plan for this next semester with ideas for the next portfolio from the start. Out new unit for Science is simple machines. In Social Studies we will be studying significant events in the forming of Canada and the effects of immigration.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

I did something different for my portfolio. Since I have access to a server and the programming skills I created a protected website for our portfolio. It meant I did not have to try to mail a hundred photo and our teacher didn’t have to download them.

Things I’m working on…

We have started our National Novel Writing Month a bit late due to the portfolio so I will extend our own deadline. The important thing is that we have started.

I’m reading…

I’m still reading Drawing with Children. It is one of those books that you have to actually read. I kept expecting more drawing and diagrams but there is a lot of important text to get through first. I am looking forward to using it in our schoolroom.

I’m cooking…

As I am writing this there is a wonderful smell of baking bread coming from my kitchen. It is making me hungry but it is going to come out just before I need to go get my daughter and take her to Tae Kwon Do.

Homemade Bread

I made No-Bake Cookie this week. No pictures. This is my ‘Oh I forgot to tell you, I volunteered you to bring the snack this afternoon’ go to recipe. Done and ready to go in 15 minutes.

As I asked about a couple of weeks ago I am planning on setting up a linkup for Homeschool Recipes. I see so many good recipes hopping from blog to blog I though it would be a good idea. I have my first draft of my button done.

I’m grateful for…

My wife’s position at work was converted from a 1 year contract to permanent. We were confident that it was going to be but it is nice to have signed paperwork in hand. This also solidifies my role as a SAHD and homeschooler.
