Chicken Cacciatore Plated

Homeschooling Journal Week 11

In my life this week…

We had a great time going to a MakerSpace meetup. These places provide space, tools and mentoring for building just about anything. This one seems to be focused on electronics and that is just fine with my kids. The people running it locally are homeschoolers and want to run sessions for kids. Now I just need to find time to fit it in.

In our homeschool this week…

We’ve been switching over to our new units in Social Studies and Science. In social studies I found a cool website that has every maritime explorer and their voyages mapped out. You can select the time frame you want to look at.

For science we have been playing with K’nex Gears. It has been loads of fun but I need to get ahead of him in the teachers manual. The first project had him building a fan with two gears. You could change the sizes of the gears and observe the changes in the amount of force need to turn and the speed of the fan as well as how many time it turned for each turn of the crank.

My favorite thing this week was…

My new hole punch that is capable of going through 45 pages. No more frustration at ‘Woops I shoved too many sheets in’

Things I’m working on…

NaNoWriMo is going well for Philip and I am interested in what his final story will be. Me on the other hand needs a kick in the butt.

I’m cooking…

I keep a spreadsheet of our standard and not so standard meals as well as ideas. Going through that list reminded me that I hadn’t made chicken cacciatore in a while.

We have half a cow coming at the end of the month so cleaning the deep freeze has become a priority.

  1. Love the painting in the background. It looks like the murals we have around our town. Thanks for the maritime linkage. I’m going to check it out!

    Dropping by from THMJ!

  2. Thanks for stopping by. The background is a poster we picked up for free at State Park in Eastern Washington State. We actually have two up on the wall. The words that are not visible read “Washington State – Archaeology – Rediscovering Knowledge”

  3. I haven’t made chicken cacciatore in such a long time, it is one of my favorites. I know what I will be making next week. Love the hole punch I need one of those.
