Homeschool Journal Year 2 Week 13

In my life this week…

This is going to be a short one. We are just about ready for Christmas but there is a lot that has to happen this weekend. Last weekend was mostly me baking the Christmas cookies and writing blog posts about them. One is naturally gluten free and the other can easily be made so. I really wanted to have the recipes out there so I wrote them right after making them.

The kids also assembled some gingerbread houses. I found a cute kit that had 5 mini houses that work perfect for our family of five. We also make our own gingerbread but I always have problems with the assembly.

In our homeschool this week…

Last week of school before the holiday… Needless to say we did not get a lot accomplished. I did find some cool science supplies in the dollar store. I went in looking for a laser pointer. Found that and turned around to find some convex mirrors for checking blind spots. I thought to myself ‘I wonder if they have shaving mirrors’. Yep so that got us a concave mirror. I also grabbed a flat mirror. The whole bill was under $7. The kids had a blast exploring what they did. While that was educational I have some ideas for an experiment with them.

I’m cooking…

I got two batches of cookies done and those are the two that are critical for me at Christmas time. I also wrote each up as a post. Since I have been playing around with Pinterest more I tried to make the pictures more ‘Pin-able’

I also had my Christmas traditional crackers, cheese and Hickory Farm’s Summer Sausage. I remember my mother stocking up on it every time we were in Seattle. Now I can get it up here in Canada but only at Christmas in a little booth in the mall.

I’m reading…

Philip is reading the “Fellowship of the Ring” He got it out of the library today and is already well into it.

Margaret is reading “Little House on the Prairie”, “The Fallacy Detectives” and “Meet the Austins”

  1. Those cookies look so good Chris!! I think I want to go buy a gingerbread kit after seeing yours. It has been years since we did one. I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!!
