In my life this week…
It is spring break here and the weather is wonderful. The kids all got new bikes this week as they had all outgrown their old ones. They have gone on a number of bike rides this week.

A couple of weeks ago the kids participated in a cub car rally and I completely forgot to mention it. All three kids got to participate although at different events. The scouts have trucks. Philip’s used nuts and washers to simulate a load and to bring it up to the max weight. Margaret had a traditional cub car that she carved into a cat about to pounce. Ian got a beaver buggy that is very simple for them to assemble and color. None of them won but Philip’s truck made it the farthest in the competition.
My wife has still been busy with concerts but as I am writing this she only has one left.
We had a sleepover on Wednesday night with three kids joining us. It was noisy but everyone had fun. I made tacos which were great for everyone. The three joining us had had tacos the night before but as kids tacos are always welcome.
The Margaret and Ian went to their house for a sleepover on Sunday. Their mom took everyone to a toonie matinee. I am realizing that most of my reader are American and don’t know what a toonie is. We have no bills for 1 or 2 dollars, both are now coins. The one dollar one came out first and has a picture on a loon on the back. Thus it got nicknamed the loonie. Later the two dollar came out and was instantly nicknamed the toonie. So when we joke about our currency we call it our loonie toons currency.
I’m Cleaning…

With it being spring break we have been trying to get caught up on cleaning and our minimizing goals. Last weekend I had the kids haul up every piece of clothing that they owned and make a big pile on one of the couches. My wife sorted through it and eliminated a large bag to donate and a small bag to garbage.

I went through my side of the bed and my clothes. That got rid of three bags of garbage, two to donate and one of recycling.

The kids have been working downstairs. With the clothes dealt with and neatly away in their drawers they unburied the rest of the floor. They have spent their cleaning time the rest of week on the playroom and tv area. They are making progress.
I also got them to put aside a number of bins of toys that they don’t play with that often to show that if they were gone that cleanup after the sleep over would be easier. It worked and they are more willing to part with stuff now. We are going to go through the toys as a family this weekend.
In our homeschool this week…
While it is spring break Philip and Margaret are still doing math in order to help catch them up.
I am starting to think about next year and the curriculum choices that I want to make. Right now it is mostly Philip as he is entering Grade 8 and that means there are some electives that we have to choose and work through. My problem is that for a lot of them he is already past the requirements as we have already been doing them as part of life.
We are Reading…
I got “Surely You’re Joking Mr Feynman” out of the library for Philip and he has started reading it.
Margaret is reading “Dear Canada: A Trail of Broken Dreams”

Your cleaning and purging looks like it’s coming along nicely! I remember the cub scout car rally when my oldest was little. It was a lot of fun! You’re great at making sure the kids participate in plenty of fun social activities! You reminded me that I need to start thinking about next year as well! We can officially call it Bethany’s senior year or let her continue until she’s 21. I plan to continue working with her, but unofficially because I don’t want to keep reporting on her.
