In my life this week…
This week started out with toilet troubles and ended with a ski vacation. The toilet troubles started when I realized that the toilet was tipping. My first assumption was that it was a loose nut. Nope, the nut was fine but I did pull the bolt straight through the floor. Not good we appear to have a rotten subfloor. I start to peel up the yucky stick together vinyl tiles. That revealed a second layer of linoleum and that there was an air gap between the linoleum and the floating vinyl tiles. To add insult to injury never mind smell the toilet has been leaking raw sewage into the gap for months if not years. The smell, once I removed the top tiles is atrocious. Give that the linoleum would have been original and this house was build in 1969 we tested it for asbestos. Thankfully it came back negative. Given that the rest of the bathroom is original we have decided to gut it.

The skiing was excellent at least that was what I was told. I spent my days getting caught up on my reading. I finished “Raising Steam”, “The Rithmatist” and “Earth Afire” The kids were in ski camps for three of the days. Those are away fun and really improve their skiing. We also had some members of the Canadian Ski team training at the mountain. So we got to meet and take photos with some Olympians. We also got a poster with autographs on it.

Philip tried sliding on the rail. It was a contest to see how far you could go balanced on top a metal rail with skis or a snowboard. The longest was 142 feet. Philip’s best attempt was 10 feet but that was after numerous bruises and a sprained thumb.

Ian also managed to bruise himself tumbling down a run. He was very proud of his bruises and took them as a badge of honor. His skiing has really advanced this year.

Margaret is my steady one and is the one that is least likely to give me gray hairs.

I’m Cleaning…
I finished of the closet that I posted last week. With the vacation this week nothing else has happened. I am still on track with the 40 bags in 40 days challenge. As of Day 15 I had a total of 15.5 bags or equivalents done. I am not counting our vacation. With the bathroom we need to get everything out. That will be some major sorting and it is not my domain so I certainly need my wife’s help.

In our homeschool this week…
None! I guess I could count it all as P.E.
A photo, video, link, or quote to share (silly, serious or both!)…

We love the “trees don’t move” sign! That is a way big bummer about the bathroom. We have gutted one in this house and I love the end result.
So sorry about the bathroom issues – at least you can do what you’d like to it now that you’re gutting it out.
Skiing trip sounds fab – how exciting to meet some Olympians.
Well it didn’t start out well but it ended wonderfully!!! So sorry about the bathroom issues but can’t wait to see ‘after’ pictures. I love all the skiing pictures and those icicles are seriously cool!! Keilee and I have never been skiing. Hopefully she will get to at some point in her life! She said to tell you thank you SO much for the Gussy contribution Chris!! 🙂
Oh. The bathroom. What a mess. Ugh. But the skiing looks like loads of fun! And you’re doing awesome with the 40 Bags in 40 Days. I’m sitting at 6 bags, but I’ve been decluttering for a year now. There’s always stuff that can go, but I’ve definitely slowed down.
It really sounds like you did need a vacation after the beginning of your week. The whole bathroom story is just what I think my husband fears about “used” houses. He has always insisted on building new ones. At least you can make the bathroom how you want it this time. None of us have ever been snow skiing, but it looks like tons of fun. Great job with your decluttering, I’m not that diligent. I go in spurts and clear out 10 bags at a time with large items that don’t go in bags and then go a few weeks before I declutter again. Amber did work on her multiple bookshelves this weekend and we have tons of books leaving the house. Sniff.
I do not envy you the bathroom job! We just put in a new shower and that was annoying enough! I’m hoping you have another bathroom to use while the renovations are going on! Skiing looks cold and dangerous but fun! Of course clean, well organized closets are always good! I’m glad you guys could get away and have some fun!
