In my life this week…
We started out the week with Ian’s Birthday party. The theme was lego so we used a variety of the kids creations as the decorations. Margaret took it upon herself to spell out Happy Birthday with lego. The dragons have been on the blog before some of the others came from Philip’s Master Builder kit that he got in LegoLand.

For the cake I made Hyper cake. Normally it is a normal 13×9 inch pan with mini marshmallows spread on top and the three pounds of chocolate fudge poured over that. We used full sized marshmallow and held them in place with toothpicks while the fudge set. It mostly looked like a lego brick.

We had four kids from Ian’s preschool show up and two of them came with siblings. One was Philip’s age the other two were infants. It has been a while since I had to baby proof. Lots of people made it a success. I also had three mom’s in the house that all know I’m a SAHD so I was really glad for all the cleaning I have been doing. They also all knew that we homeschool so they were curious about our homeschool room.

We got the three of four masses over the Easter weekend. The kids managed to sit through the two hour Easter Vigil service. Philip was alter serving so he really had to pay attention, there is a lot of extra stuff he had to remember. Easter Sunday we had three baptisms which is amazing for our tiny parish.

The bathroom is now as far along as it can get without the vanity and counter-top arriving at Home Depot. Patience patience…
I’m Cleaning…

The living room finally feels open. Our cleaning has started to pay off. This meant that I had to tackle the entryway. The closet and the coat rack were a disaster. With them now done I am happy with the living room.

In our homeschool this week…
We are continuing to grind through the semester. Grandma has been doing a great job helping the kids with English. We found a great resource for comparing countries thanks to another homeschooling dad. The website allows you to look at a variety of social indicators from rights to access to education, drinking water, personal safety and more. It was very enlightening. The website is Social Progress Imperative.
Starting tomorrow I get to attend our local homeschooling convention. It happens to be local but pulls people from all over the province. The keynote speaker this year is Carol Barnier. I plan on sitting in on all of her talks this weekend. She talks about ADD/ADHD with a lot of humor. Based on her website I am going to have a lot of fun and learn a whole bunch. If you have an ADD/ADHD kid give her website a peek.

Margaret’s art class is going well. This week they learned some watercolor techniques and did a painting. I will be signing her up for more of these classes.

Happy birthday to Ian! A Lego party sounds like lots of fun. Looks like the bathroom is coming along quite nicely. Did you do the tiling yourself?
Cool cake, and great job on the bathroom so far. But I’m most impressed with Margaret’s picture. It is a lovely painting and it looks like she is really enjoying the class. Have a good weekend.
Tonia: Grandpa has done all the tiling. I seem to be having trouble posting comments to your blog. I have lost three in the past couple of weeks. I think you spam filter has started bouncing me.
I’m visiting from Weekly Wrap up. So glad to hop over to a sahd who homeschool’s site. My husband stayed home with our two younger kids for 7 years. He worked part time on the weekends and ran a real estate biz from home, but it was wonderful for the kids seeing him there. Now he and I both work and homeschool our kids together and it works well for us. Your house looks fine. Mine is always a bit messy, but full of love as I’m sure yours is. Look forward to future post.
The party looks like a success!! I love the Happy Birthday! Great cake too. I love the bathroom. Very impressive. All your cleaning inspired me to try to clean up our homeschool room. I decided about 30 minutes in it was a BAD idea! Overwhelming much! I love Margaret’s night sky. What a great job she did. And how exciting about the HS convention. I would love to attend one of those!
I see a toilet in that bathroom!!! Yay! Super wonderful Lego birthday by the way! And another wonderful job on the cleaning. I say you deserve a cup of coffee and fifteen minutes quiet time to enjoy all to yourself 😉 LOL
Margaret is really talented. Her “Night Sky” is superb! I’m also quite impressed with her Lego “Happy Birthday” sign. The cake is cute too! The bathroom and organizing are really looking good! Carol Barnier is great! I’ve got and love her book, ” How to get Your Child off the Refrigerator and on to Learning” Have fun at the convention and let us all know what you learned!
