In my life this week…
Last weekend Margaret had her year end camp for cub scout. She was away from Friday night to Sunday. They went up to a lake in the hills around Kelowna where they fished and canoed. They built their own shelters out tarps, rope and what they could find. There were cabin available if the weather turned nasty but they slept in their shelter the whole weekend.

On the Sunday our local YMCA had a fit kids day with a whole bunch of activities and ways to get exercise. Philip is part of a group at the Y call Junior Volunteers and they were helping out at a station along with older kids and adults. Ian and Margaret got to try out the climbing wall. Both have done it before at other events. Margaret made it all the way to the top and rang the bell. Ian made it well above where mommy could help him. He got above the yellow snake.

On Friday Grandma took them to a local kids festival. They had a great time and tried paddle boarding for the first time. It wasn’t as crowded as our public schools are in a labour dispute with the government and are currently not doing any field trips. Normally the Friday is a lot of school kids on field trips.
On Friday night we went to my wife’s work for a presentation from Free the Children / Me to We. It was excellent. We got an one hour, much smaller version of a We Day Celebration. The first speaker was an eleven year old girl named Hannah Alper. I really can’t explain her, she has to be seen and heard to understand the energy she has. The second speaker was Spencer West he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro without any legs. I have put some videos at the to give you a better idea of what we were treated to. They finished up the evening with a rock band called Neverest.
I’m Cleaning…

I cleaned my desk this week partially because this week’s challenge from the board was paper but also because I need the space to start getting the portfolios in order. It actually wasn’t that bad and resulted in about half a bin of recycling and even less garbage. I did sort through a pile of unlabelled DVD/CDs all but three were garbage.

In our homeschool this week…
I have started to prepare the website for all the content. I have a skeleton of files with the text explaining what we did for both of the kids almost done. I still need to do Bible but I need my wife, their catechism teacher’s, input. I still need to arrange all their work, take pictures and create PDFs.
I have decided that for Philip next year that I am going to let him do the planning for at least some of the courses. After the portfolios are done I am going to give him the outcomes he needs to cover and the requirements for the portfolio and let him come up with a plan. Its school work to have them plan next years school work right?
Global Warming…
I haven’t had time this week and with the portfolios due next week I won’t be doing it then either. Hopefully it will be back the week after that although I have also considered making it its own post.
A photo, video, link, or quote to share (silly, serious or both!)…

Wow that’s some rock climbing wall! After watching thiese videos I feel that have no excuses for not doing something to make the world a better place! Thanks for sharing, Chris!
Good luck with the portfolios. It always seems like you have so much work to do for end of terms. We just don’t have any oversight at all in Missouri, so anything seems like work to me. Lol.
Looks like the kids had fun climbing too. That’s a fairly impressive climb for them both.
I hope this week goes well.
