In my life this week…
The teacher that oversees us will be here in Saturday morning. Philip still has a little to do but it is mostly done. I can almost relax.
We decided to conduct an unannounced fire drill. Philip was sleeping in, the alarm clock was going off and he wasn’t waking. With his hearing loss we had been told that he would be able to hear the fire alarm but I needed to know for sure. So I activated the smoke detector. He could hear it and woke up which was good. He also thought it was a real fire which I am sorry for but it was the only way to test. We had a couple of minor issues that we resolved. Philip didn’t know how to get the screen out of his window.
My mom is here next week for a visit. I haven’t seen her since my brother and I went down. I don’t know what she will be up for but I know she will probably push herself too hard.
In our homeschool this week…
We are done. It went down to the wire yet again. The only thing that we did out of the ordinary this week was to have Philip write a final exam in Math. He had not completed the book but we had skipped through and covered all the topics. So we used the exam at the end of the book and had him write it as a real exam. He got 87% and most of the errors were simple math errors. So good, we are comfortable to let him move on. He starts middle school in the new year so it starts to get tight if you want to get all the courses in high school. The bad, we need him to memorize the multiplication tables. We are going with outright bribery. Beating dad’s time is worth $25, beating mom’s is another $25.
Cooking…

I got creative in the kitchen this week. I was going to have an apple with cheese for lunch but I really wanted a grilled cheese since we had some extra swiss cheese. I decided to combine the two. So I fried up some apple rings, just enough to warm them an put some brown on them but not enough to cook them through. I then put them in between layers of cheese in my sandwich; Cheddar, Motzerella and Swiss. Fried on low to give all the cheese time to melt without burning the bread. Delicious and I stuffed a whole apple in there.

The fire drill sounds like a great idea. I’m glad you got all the kinks worked out of your escape plan. Memorizing the multiplication facts was very hard for quite a few of my kids, too! Your sandwich looks yummy. I just may have to copy it! You guys have a great week and Happy Father’s Day, Chris!
Congrats on finishing! Now you’ve got some time to relax. We’ve never had an official fire drill, but occasionally I quiz Amber as to where she would go (our meeting place that is not the mailbox in case that isn’t far enough away). She can’t jump from her window without significant harm, but I know from just trying to get our screens out that they are puny and one good hit will bend and warp them out of the way 🙂
Enjoy being done!
We’ve had the fire talk with the kids, it terrifies them. I think it would be a good idea to do a full drill, but we’d have to tell them first or they’d be throwing their little sister out the window 😉
Woohoo! Done!
Thank you so much for sharing and linking up with Favorite things Friday! Hope to see you again this week!
